ALIGN MAGAZINE

What’s Align Magazine?
Align Magazine is an art, fashion, and culture student-led magazine at the University of Oregon. There are several different departments like writers, layout designers, models, photographers, and more. I worked as a blog writer and kept up with the latest trends to report on their website. But now, I’m a videographer! It’s been the most rewarding expereince making promotional videos for the magazine filled with so much hard-work, dedication, and creativity <3

01 The New Frontier

This 10-week project has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had at the UO thus far. Working with this team of videographers has expanded my technical skills, comfortability, and creative endevours.

We jumped in head first week 1 with brainstorms, collaboration, and getting all the ideas out there. After securing an idea, the following weeks consisted of outreach and planning. None of us had ever used a fancy C70, so we put in the work with a private class. Shooting the interviews was the best part. We had fun with it. I always wanted a job with people and projects that didn’t actually feel like a job (even though it for sure took up the sweat, frustration, and time of one), and that’s exactly how this documentary felt. The last 2 weeks all we did was edit, edit, edit. We split up the parts to work on individually, then edited them all together, sharing ideas back and forth.

The New Frontier: “Not just a history--but also a bold, uncharted expanse for you to explore. It’s all about new beginning, chasing your own gold rush, and making bold moves” (align_mag. “The New Frontier.” Instagram).

02 Celebrity Look Alikes with Align

Shot at the launch party for Fall 24 issue, “The New Frontier,” I got a head start on my first Winter term project. Winter 25’s theme is “Double Take.”

This celebrity look alike video idea immediately came to mind when I heard this theme. It was the perfect opportunity to not only promote the launch parties success, but let our audience know that we’re always on the go. Celebrity look alike videos are some of the only ones all stop and intentionally watch all the way through on social media. I made sure to keep in 30 seconds, as quick topics like these can lose people’s attention quickly.

03 Find Your New Frontier

I pitched this idea to the executive member on the video team and ran with it. I designed the individual notecards on Canva and tied each one to a flower. A fellow member on the video team helped pass out the flowers while I filmed. I chose to film hand-held style because it was important to me to get a zommed in reaction from each person. It created a sense of authenticity and gave the audience a glance into the raw emotions.

Kindness and the power to inspire is free. I wanted to give out some motivation to my peers and they can find more in our newest release, The New Frontier!

04 Fall 24 Mood Board

After we, the video team, decided on a long-form video idea, I created a moodboard for the group to reference.

Idea: How do you express your cultural identity in untraditional ways? Create your own identity in an environment that doesn’t emobody or cater to your background.
